The James Beard Foundation will hold its annual Awards Ceremony and Reception on June 8th. This year, Steve was selected as an at large member of the Awards committee. The Awards Committee oversees the administration of the entire Awards process and selects the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement and Humanitarian of the Year awards.

"The Great Match: Wine and Tapas", a Spanish walk-around tasting tour, will travel to Scottsdale, AZ on May 19th and to Las Vegas on May 22nd. In each city, Steve will conduct a pre-tasting, in-depth, Spanish wine seminar for the press. A walk-around tasting will follow the seminar featuring wines from every region in Spain and food by local chefs. Sherry will have a table at the tasting, which is open only to members of the trade and press, and pour a wide range of Vinos de Jerez.

The All About Greek Wine Roadshow will stop in San Francisco on the 13th and New York on the 15th. BAR (Beverage Alcohol Resource) will hold its 5-day Intermediate Certificate Program at its new home at the Astor Center in NYC. BAR is an independent organization whose program instructs attendees not only about the details and techniques necessary to be a competent maker of mixed drinks, but likewise about the pedigree and use of all the fine distilled spirits that act as the base spirits for cocktails. BAR's mission is to educate, guide, and propagate the healthy, enlightened, and responsible use of beverage alcohol products. The school is in a unique position to create and teach a series of courses that will not just train, but actually educate those who take them, be they service industry professionals, members of the media, or curious consumers.

Steve Olson and Andy Seymour spent much of December and January in Cancun, Mexico where they worked diligently to create the beverage programs for AQUA Cancun, the luxury hotel property of Grupo Posadas. aka wine geek designed and implemented the entire beverage program for the property which encompasses three high-end celebrity chef restaurants - with Michelle Bernstein from Miami, Franco Maddalazzo from Italy, and Mexico's 2007 chef of the year, Martha Ortiz - as well as six bars, in-room dining and catering.
